The American Federation of Teachers, Local 420 website reports that the organization has endorsed Irene J. Smith for Mayor of St. Louis.

When our Mayor, Francis Slay, has lost his way by accepting $239,000 in campaign contributions from Rex Sinquefield, an anti-public education zealot, we need to stand up on March 3, 2009 to say that enough is enough. Irene J. Smith has a comprehensive plan to prevent school closures and to strengthen neighborhoods by improving the delivery of social services.
St. Louis City's teachers agree-- Irene has the vision to make St. Louis, A City for All.
